In a New Twist of Events Nebanda’s Brother Has Been abandoned in Nairobi

The brother of the late Butaleja MP Cerinah Nebanda has been abandoned in Kenyas,Nairobi as  a forensic  team was heading to London with Nebanda’s samples for more examinations into the cause of her death.

Police say Nebanda’s brother Ronald Hasahya, was blocked by the late MP’s family and members of Parliament who contacted through an unnamed foreign embassy.

Wandera was left in Kenyan capital Nairobi as the rest of the team members headed to London, Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba said on Thursday

“It is true that he hasn’t gone with the forensic team to London after he was blocked by the family and MPs,” Ms Nabakooba said on Thursday.

Meanwhile pathologist Sylvester Onzinvua who was arrested at Entebbe Airport as he was heading to South Africa with the samples of the late Nebanda  for examination has been released .Dr. Sylvester Onzinvua was released on Thursday afternoon after  spending 48hours in Kireka at the special investigations Unit.

 Onzinvua argues that his arrest was unfair since he had obtained the samples of the late Nebanda through legal means.

“I did not obtain the specimens irregularly. I worked with a team of other pathologists; we would cut a body part and extract the specimen, and then put in one bottle for the Government Analytical Laboratory and another in bottle for independent investigations,” he said.

The opposition in parliament has tasked government to immediately produce the report indicating what killed the 24year old legislator Cerina Nebanda.

 While giving the opposition end of year and Christmas message to Ugandans, the leader of the opposition Nandala Mafabi said that government should not only produce the report of Cerina Nebada but even other reports for Ugandans who were murdered mysteriously earlier.

Mr Mafabi told reporters at parliament that the country must use Cerina Nebanda’s case to demand the earlier murders that were concluded by the state. He cited out the former Army commander James Kazini, Brig Noble Mayombo and Lt Col Sserwanga Lwanga who were murdered but their reports were not released.

“We demand the immediate release of those reports as soon as possible” Said Mafabi

Mafabi has criticised  president Museveni for lying to the nation that Mayombo’s report was released to the family. “It is a shame for the full president to lie the nation. It’s not true that Mayombo’s report was released to the family as it was motioned by Mr President” Said Mafabi. “There is now a huge possibility that they were murdered by the state like Nebanda.The onus on Museveni and his clique to disprove the nation” He added.

 He also added that” even the behavior of police and the president following her murder leaves no doubt in our mind that this was extra judicial killing.”

 “The arrest of a pathologist hired by parliament to carry out an independent investigation is further testimony that Nebanda like many other Ugandans was murdered by the state. We further demands for an inquest into this murder”Mafabi noted.

“Already another vibrant MP Hajji Hussein Kyanjo has undergone all sorts of operations but still in position to not to talk and Doctors treating him suspect he was poisioned”He noted

Mr Mafabi however asked fellow legislators to be cautious with what they eat and watch their movements most especially during the festive season.

 Meanwhile, following allegations by the late MP’s family that their daughter was introduced to the prime suspect of the murder by Ndora West MP David Bahati and therefore suspect that there was a systematic plan to eliminate their daughter, Mp David Bahati has vehemently denied the allegations in a press statement he released today. The Press Statement is below;

Press Statement:
December 20, 2012

As we mourn the passing of our colleague, Hon. Cerinah Nebanda, there is a lot of rumour and speculation about the cause of her sudden death. I have, unfortunately learnt of claims by allegedly close family members trying to link my name to her death as having connected the Late Hon. Nebanda to one Adam Kalungi, now being looked for by the police as a suspect in the MP’s death.

The claims about an MP who connected Nebanda to the friend and my name being linked to it require a response from me.

I wish to categorically state that;
1. Hon. Nebanda was a colleague and Member of the party to which I am vice chairperson of its caucus in Parliament.

2. That I have never known, by name or physically, through phone, or any other contact, the said friend -one Adam Kalungi.

3. That I have no idea of the said workshop in Kalangala. I have, in fact, never been to Kalangala either officially or privately

4. That throughout my life, I have never linked any man, friend or not, to Hon Nebanda for whatever reason.

I wish to join the family, friends and the country to demand a thorough and quick investigation into what killed Hon. Nebanda.

Being a time of emotion and mourning for the family, it would be disrespectful on my part to ask them to substantiate the unfortunate and false remarks attributed to her parents and relatives as duty demands them to, however, the truth must be established.
I would implore our professional members of the press to investigate and report in a manner that helps the search for answers.

I also implore the Uganda Police Force to quicken the process that establishes the cause of Hon Nebanda’s death.

In the meantime, I would like to let Hon. Nebanda’s family, my party the NRM, and the whole country, know that I, David Bahati, DID NOT, CAN NOT and SHALL NOT, betray or compromise my values.

I pray that the truth will come out soon to absolve my name and give relief to my family, friends and colleagues.

May Hon Nebanda rest in Eternal peace.
For God and My Country!

David Bahati
MP Ndorwa West, Kabale.
